At Afro-Canadian Immigrants Empowerment (ACIE) we offer a variety of services to ensure that individuals and families have safe, affordable, and stable housing.
- Housing counselling:
- Assistance with understanding the Canadian housing market, including tenant rights and responsibilities.
- Guidance on navigating rental applications and leases
- Affordable Housing assistance
- Help in finding and applying for affordable housing units or government-assisted housing programs.
- Advocacy for individuals and families in dealing with landlords or housing agencies.
- Housing placements and referrals
- Connections to housing providers, landlords, and real estate agents who offer affordable or subsidized housing.
Referrals to other housing-focused non-profits or government agencies
- Legal assistance
- Legal advice and representation for tenants facing discrimination, eviction, or other housing-related issues.
- Assistance with resolving disputes between tenants and landlords.
- Home ownership education
- Workshops and resources on the steps to homeownership, including financial planning, credit building, and mortgage applications.
- Assistance with government programs that support first-time homebuyers.
- Support services
- Case management to provide ongoing support to individuals and families to ensure housing stability.
- Counselling and support for those dealing with housing-related stress or trauma.
- Community integration and networking
- Opportunities for Black immigrants to connect with others in the community, creating a support network.
- Programs and events that promote cultural exchange and a sense of belonging in their new communities.
- Advocacy and Policy work
- Efforts to for policies that support affordable housing and protect the rights of tenants, specifically addressing the needs of Black immigrants.
- Engagement with local and national governments to influence housing-related legislation.
